There were many false doctrines and practices that had not yet been cleaned out of the organization. Not all of them were recognized at once, but gradually over the years that followed it became evident to what extent the brothers had been in Babylonish captivity at that time. With considerable misunderstanding they had accepted earthly political governments as the "superior authorities" that God had ordained according to Romans 13:1; and as a result the Witnesses had been held in fear of man, particularly the civil rulers.

Havia muitas falsas doutrinas e práticas que ainda não tinha sido eliminadas da organização. Nem todos elas foram reconhecidas de uma só vez, mas, gradualmente ao longo dos anos que se seguiram, tornou-se evidente até que ponto os irmãos tinham estado em cativeiro babilônico naquela época. Com considerável entendimento errado eles haviam aceitado os governos políticos terrenos como as "autoridades superiores" que Deus tinha estabelecido de acordo com Romanos 13:1; e como resultado, as Testemunhas de Jeová foram mantidas em medo do homem, especialmente os governantes civis.
